Short Stories—Lesson 6: Idea making Part Four: Mind Mapping

Visually creating story ideas

Mind mapping is a visual storytelling system. The writer starts by writing a topic idea in the center of the page and drawing a circle around it.

Then the writer draws branches coming off the central circle. These branches connect to other circles containing individual parts of the main topic.

The writer then continues to draw branches off of the story, getting more and more detailed each time.

Practice Mind Mapping

Make your own mind map by picking a story idea and branching out different parts of the story from this central idea. Keep getting more and more detailed.
